About
Welcome to A TABERNA, a hidden gem nestled inside the Iberico Mall in Vitorino dos Piães, Portugal. If you're on the lookout for a culinary escape that offers a taste of traditional Portuguese dishes, you've found the right place. The restaurant, located at Av. de Santo André 167, 4990-810 Vitorino dos Piães, is easily accessible and offers a cozy atmosphere that's perfect for any time of year.
Upon stepping through the doors of A TABERNA, you might notice the lack of windows, but fear not—what the space lacks in natural light, it more than compensates for with its delightful ambiance and inviting decor. Reviews from patrons like Susan Lorraine Knox highlight the comfortable setting and the efficient service, asserting that this spot is just as enjoyable on a hot summer day as it is in the chill of winter. The hallmark of this establishment is its special brick oven, which churns out an array of mouthwatering pizzas that cater to various preferences.
When it comes to the menu, A TABERNA showcases the best of Portuguese cuisine. The codfish, highly recommended by diners such as José Gonçalves and Tiago Silva, stands out for its exquisite preparation and flavor. Pair it with a glass of fine red mature wine, and you have a memorable dining experience on your hands. While José Pedro Silva notes that the atmosphere may not be the most fashionable, it perfectly aligns with the type of restaurant it presents itself to be—affordable yet delightful.
Despite its many strengths, there have been moments where service may have faltered, as indicated by Logan Laurian, particularly during busy periods. However, the staff's overall kindness and willingness to accommodate guests demonstrate a commitment to improving customer experience. Whether you're stopping for a quick lunch or a relaxed dinner, A TABERNA offers a modest yet inviting setting for food lovers and those looking to enjoy the staples of Portuguese culinary culture.
As you explore the dishes here, you'll find that each plate is crafted with care and a commitment to traditional flavors—a true testament to the heart of Portuguese dining. Don't miss out on this remarkable eatery; it’s a postcard from Portugal in every bite.
“ This restaurant is hidden inside the Iberico mall across the street from the secondary school. It's cool inside in the summer and warm in the winter. The dishes are traditional and we'll prepared and the service is good. It has no windows, but the decor makes it comfortable and it has a special bruck oven for a variety of tasty pizzas too. ”
“ Good price/quality restaurant. Atmosphere is not amazing but it's good for the type of restaurant. ”
“ Broke off from the Camino de Santiago for a quick bite to eat on a Sunday afternoon. I expected it to be busy, and all tables were in fact reserved. No worries, we asked if take-away was an option, and after hesitation, he said yes. We asked for coffee as well and their response just made us feel like our presence being pilgrims was an inconvenience. Food was fine, but I would avoid if it’s a Sunday. I would happily adjust my review to be higher if service on this particular day was better. Hate feeling like a burden just because your business is busy, and you’d rather push us to the next restaurant kilometers away. ”
“ The food is very good. I recommend the codfish accompanied with a red mature wine. ”
“ Really good place, especially if you want to try typical Portuguese food! The codfish is amazing. The service is really good and the staff is kind and willing! ”
“ The food is great, but very disappointed with the table, just on the entrance of the restaurant that makes my guests cold and it's really uncomfortable with the door constantly open , especially on a rainy day like the one the we had. The food is really good but they could really improve their table service. ”
“ Amazing food, great prices and friendly staff. I was doing Caminho de Santiago and this restaurant is located on its way, you just go a little bit off the main track (I saw a scheme on the crossroads, you don’t have to do any extra walking). I had lunch here on 25th of April. It was full when I came, so I had to wait a little (but it’s fine, I’ve asked for a bottle of cold non-alco beer). I had half a dose of cabrito and it was great! Unfortunately, couldn’t finish it, the portion was generous :) highly recommended! ”
“ The food was good, staff was also efficient but I got cut in a broken glass and they had no band-aids. Also had to change my baby's diaper with him standing on the toilet as there wasn't a place to do it properly... there's room to improve! ”
